Police Department

police2b1The Township currently operates a full-time police department. Presently the department operates with 13 full-time police officers, including a Police Chief, 2 Lieutenants and a Sergeant. Five part-time officers supplement the patrol division. Additionally, the police department has a Detective and Juvenile Bureau, a School Resources Officer and other community policing programs as well as a Civilian Police Records Clerk. The Macedonia Police Department provides dispatching service to our community.

Police Chief/Township Administrator, David Hayes

Police Chief/Township Administrator David Hayes has been in Law Enforcement, Police Supervision and Police Administration for over 40 years. Chief Hayes was appointed to lead the Department in 2007. He comes to Sagamore Hills after twenty years in the Prince George’s County (Maryland) Police Department where he was a SWAT Officer, K-9 Supervisor, Sector Supervisor and Shift Commander. Our Chief holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Kent State University and graduated from the 261st Session of the F.B.I. National Academy. Chief Hayes now wears a dual hat as the Township Administrator where he has daily Administrative duties as well as leading our fine Police Department.

Our Mission: We dedicate ourselves to protecting life and property, the preservation of peace, maintaining order, controlling crime, apprehending offenders, enforcing laws and serving the citizens of Sagamore Hills. To accomplish our mission, we will adhere to the values of integrity, fairness, respect, honesty, courage and compassion. The Sagamore Hills Police Department acknowledges that its effectiveness depends upon acceptance of its authority and approval of its actions by the community, which it serves. The Department, therefore, expects exemplary conduct of its employees.

As Police Chief, I command the police operations of the Township. I am responsible for the Department’s management that results in an efficient and effective crime-fighting and community oriented police department. As Chief I take great pride in coordinating relationships between the Department and the citizens and residents we serve, as well as other local, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
